Clint leads volunteers through photomonitoring basics at the kick-off training session.

The 2022 photomonitoring season officially kicked off this month when Legacy hosted its annual training session for our incredible photomonitor volunteers on April 9. We were fortunate this year to once again hold the session in-person at the Legacy office, which felt amazing after two long years apart!

Clint McGill—Legacy’s Easement Stewardship Coordinator and newest team member—is beginning his first season coordinating the volunteers and reveled in the chance to meet volunteers face to face. “Nothing beats talking to our volunteers in-person rather than through a computer screen or over the phone. Being together in the same room and having a chance for us all to chat and get to know each other is such a rewarding experience.”

While Clint taught new volunteers how to monitor conservation easements and why it’s such an important part of protecting them in the future, the in-person setting also allowed our more seasoned volunteers to share knowledge they’ve gained over their years of experience. And before the morning was over, all volunteers got up to speed on the monitoring software and tried out the new iPads made possible by a generous grant from ITC Holdings.

The land protection work we do would not be possible without our photomonitor volunteers. Thank you to everyone that came out on Saturday, and we look forward to a great season!
