Legacy Land Conservancy is proud to announce two new members of our Board of Trustees:
Sarah Newman – Sarah grew up in Missouri and has since lived in Ithaca, NY and Ann Arbor. She is retired from a career as a neuroscientist at the University of Michigan, lives on the Old West Side and has been active in the community as a volunteer for several non-profit organizations, including Peace Neighborhood Center and the Natural Area Preservation group within the Ann Arbor Parks Department. She enjoys creating colored-pencil art, playing the cello, and walking, hiking, and traveling with friends who share her enjoyment of nature.
Dale Sass – Dale retired after a 43 year career as a Landscape Architect/Principal with Johnson, Johnson and Roy Inc., a nationally recognized environmental design firm based in Ann Arbor. He joined JJR in 1967 after graduating from Michigan State University and participated in the Chicago Lakefront Study, Michigan Environmental Features Study, Charlevoix County Environmental Features Inventory, and Master Plans for 5 New Towns along the Persian Gulf in Saudi Arabia. Currently, he volunteers at Legacy, Therapeutic Riding Inc. and Habitat for Humanity. He also enjoys building wooden boats, kayaking and exploring the natural environment.
Preparing a Master Plan for Lima Township in the 70′s led him to understand the fundamental role that environmental planning and soil science could play in identifying the most appropriate patterns of agricultural/open space land use versus urban/suburban development. This knowledge can help guide Legacy in protecting the most important agricultural and open space resources in the region for the future.
