Legacy volunteer and Miller Canfield attorney Steven Roach rides his bicycle through downtown Detroit

Steve Roach is a principal attorney at the Detroit-based law firm of Miller Canfield, where he practices finance law and litigation. He has a passion for cycling, fishing, and education and loves to donate his time to organizations that add value to the community and environment—Brainstormers! Inspiration Factory, the Howell Nature Center, Tour de Troit, Inc., the League of Michigan Bicyclists—and now, Legacy!

He began volunteering with Legacy earlier this year, and his legal skills combined with his love of the outdoors and land preservation has been a perfect match. Steve’s extensive legal knowledge and amazing communication style has been instrumental as we navigate new legal matters within our conservation easement properties.

We are honored that he has found time to work with us! Thank you, Steve!

Steve Roach is a principal attorney at the Detroit-based law firm of Miller Canfield, where he practices finance law and litigation, with a recognized focus on restructuring. He often volunteers to assist organizations that add value to the community and environment. Steve firmly believes that providing a better place for people to live and to work and assisting small businesses to grow are instrumental in building a better, more sustainable community. His passions include cycling, hiking, fishing and education. He currently is the chair of the board for the Brainstormers! Inspiration Factory, and serves as general counsel for the Howell Nature Center and the Tour de Troit, Inc. He served on the board of the League of Michigan Bicyclists for 12 years, including as chair for four years, and served on the board of the Tour de Troit for 10 years. His passion for cycling led him to commute by bicycle to his offices in Detroit and Ann Arbor, and to assist with the efforts to obtain bike lanes in Detroit. He admires the progress made in Detroit, which started with a single bike lane by the Ren Cen of less than a mile in 2002 to over 250 miles 20 years later. The Detroit bike lanes have been a catalyst in Detroit’s urban renewal. Steve enjoys hiking and exploring the many areas protected by land conservancies in Benzie and Leelanau counties. He appreciates the opportunity to assist Legacy Land Conservancy with its efforts and to give back to this organization.
