Planting seeds of hope for a better tomorrow

Dear Friends,

pine needle covered path under towering pine trees at Beckwith Preserve

Donate today and double your impact! Thanks to the generosity of the Wadhams Family Foundation your gift will be doubled.

On the edge of downtown Stockbridge, a serene path blanketed with pine needles winds through a towering tunnel of trees. The fresh scent of pine resin fills the air. Owls and pileated woodpeckers perch high among the branches. Wild turkey wander and deer hide within the peaceful understory.

Though it’s hard to fathom, just fifty years ago this now majestic pine forest didn’t exist.

It started out as an idea conceived by Dr. Sidney and Harriet Beckwith who originally purchased the land in 1948. At the time, it was all open barren farmland. Slowly, they began repurposing the land and breathing new life into it–allowing the farm fields to evolve into meadows, and in 1973 with the help of students from the Stockbridge Future Farmers of America (FFA), planting the pine and spruce saplings that now rise high above the landscape.

What began as a seed–a simple notion to revitalize the land–grew into something much bigger than ever imagined. And its impact continues to be felt throughout the community generations later.

No stranger to community impact, the Wadhams Family Foundation is joining with us to plant another seed. For every dollar donated to Legacy by December 31, 2024 the Foundation will match it dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000.

Double your impact today! Join us with a gift of $50, $100, $200, $500, or whatever feels meaningful to you, and help plant the seeds for a stronger, more sustainable future for all of us. [DONATE]

Stockbridge students stand with "I planted trees for clean water" sign at Beckwith PreserveThis year a new generation of Stockbridge FFA students came back to Beckwith Preserve helping to plant 100 trees as part of our participation in the Forest to Mi Faucet initiative. And in another 50 years these trees will have grown into a diverse forest and riparian shrub buffer helping to filter our drinking water and mitigate climate change.

It’s stories like these that remind us that we don’t do this work for ourselves. We do it for future generations. Join us today with a donation of $50, $100, $200, $500, or whatever feels meaningful to you, and help us grow something bigger and bolder than ourselves. [DONATE]

Our work is not limited to planting trees. We’re safeguarding southern Michigan’s land and water to support diverse, resilient, and thriving communities – forever. Each acre we protect is another seed planted. From farmland like Jansen Farms that secure a farming future to feed our communities, to Iron Creek Nature Preserve where our community builds connections with nature.

Planting seeds like these is a bold act –a belief that there’s hope for a tomorrow that future generations can thrive in. It’s a promise to the future that good things are coming. And when you support Legacy you, too, are planting a seed and making a promise to those who will come after us.

Will you join us today in planting the seeds of hope for a better tomorrow with a donation of $1,000, $500, $250, $75 or whatever feels meaningful for you? [DONATE]

Your donation is a seed that we’ll sow for a brighter, thriving, more resilient future for our children, our community, and the diverse, beautiful flora and fauna that share southern Michigan with us. Thank you for your support!

Yours in conservation,

Diana Kern
