Sandy Sorini Elser has been a devoted volunteer with Legacy for many years. In addition to hundreds of hours helping with the legal work on acquisition projects, she is also an invaluable member of our Board of Trustees and the Land Protection Acquisition Committee.
This year we nominated her for the prestigious Michigan Environmental Council (MEC) Petoskey Prize for Environmental Leadership, an annual award recognizing a volunteer activist whose outstanding grassroots environmental leadership is marked by commitment, creativity, and courage.

“I’m thrilled that Sandy has been selected as this year’s Petoskey Prize winner for her outstanding volunteerism,” said Abby Wallace, movement building coordinator for the Environmental Council. “Her involvement with not just one but two Environmental Council member groups—Legacy Land Conservancy and League of Women Voters—exemplifies her unwavering commitment to preserving our environment and supporting civic engagement.”
Congratulations, Sandy! We are incredibly proud of you and all the work you do on behalf of Michigan’s environment!
