185 Acres of Farmland Protected in Washtenaw County

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAElse Heller has just conserved 185 acres of land in Lima Township, Washtenaw County. Her beautiful farm is also home to a stretch of Mill Creek, a significant tributary to the Huron River. Mrs. Heller’s late husband, Bob, began milking cows by hand on the farm in the early 1950s. It was his wish to be sure the farm would never be developed for non-agricultural purposes. Now, a permanent conservation easement held by Washtenaw County Parks and Recreation Commission ensures exactly that. Legacy is proud to have supported the Commission in the conservation of this treasured farmland. The easement was made possible by the county’s voter-approved Natural Areas Preservation Program. A federal grant through the Natural Resources Conservation Service also contributed to the conservation of the Heller farm.
