Iron Creek Preserve Workday (9/25) – Remove woody invasive species

September 25 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

On September 25, 2024 Legacy Land Conservancy volunteers will cut down and remove invasive shrubs at Legacy Land Conservancy’s Iron Creek Preserve in Manchester, Michigan. Volunteers will use collapsible saws and lopping pruning shears to cut invasive shrubs and haul away or deconstruct woody material from the cut shrubs. Legacy Land Conservancy staff and/or volunteers previously trained in herbicide application will apply a 25% Glyphosate herbicide to the cut stumps, and assist with cutting using chainsaws and other power tools. Legacy Land Conservancy will provide volunteers with collapsible saws, lopping pruning shears and, if needed, reusable lightweight work gloves.

Please dress for the weather and in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Pants and closed toe shoes are a must, regardless of the temperature, to protect from poison ivy and getting scratched up while working outside.

Legacy will provide buckets and work gloves, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have a pair you like. Don’t forget a water bottle and sunscreen. We also suggest you bring bug spray to reduce the risk of exposure to ticks and other biting insects. Meet at the future site of the preserve parking lot located at 11703 Noggles Rd, Manchester, MI 48158.
