Preserve Event: En Plein Air at Johnson Preserve!

“En plein air” is a French phrase that means “outdoor”! This event offers an opportunity to slow down, observe, and connect with nature in a creative way. Join us for an experience combining ecology, mindfulness, and outdoor sketching at Johnson Preserve!

Date: Saturday, August 8, 2026
Time: 10 am – 12 pm

REGISTER   Registration is limited to 15 participants.

We’ll begin with a short hike through the preserve, while learning about the ecosystems Legacy conserves. Along the way, we’ll spend time focusing on details in nature, before settling in for dedicated sketching and observation time on the preserve. There is no need to worry about producing a perfect final product! This event is about noticing the natural world and the creative process.

• Bring a water bottle and sun protection (hats and sunscreen)!
• Please wear pants, a long sleeve shirt, and closed-toe shoes to protect you from ticks, poison ivy, and the sun.
• Remember to bring bug spray and sunscreen. Legacy will have supplemental bug spray and sunscreen at the event in the need of re-application!
• Legacy will provide clipboards, sketching paper, pencils, and sharpeners.
• Participants are encouraged to bring a folding chair, their own clipboard, and any additional art supplies (pens, watercolors, colored pencils, etc).

This event is open to all, no matter your previous experience. From first-time sketchers, to those with an established art practice, if you have ever felt inspired by nature or wanted to capture a beautiful moment outdoors, please join us!
